Leiden, The Netherlands, June 26, 2001- Crucell N.V. (NASDAQ: CRXL, Euronext Amsterdam: CRXL), today announced that it has signed a licensing and production agreement with San Diego (CA)-based Selective Genetics Inc. for access to its PER.C6TM technology and for manufacture their therapeutic product for studies in the USA.

Under the terms of the agreement, Selective Genetics will receive a non-exclusive license to Crucell's PER.C6TM cell line. Furthermore, Crucell will manufacture clinical grade batches of Selective Genetic's PER.C6TM -derived gene therapy product using its human cell line production platform PER.C6TM. Selective Genetics is a privately held biotechnology company located in San Diego California, focused on the development of highly localized, site-specific gene therapeutics for tissue repair and regeneration.

Crucell will receive upfront and annual payments for the license and additional fees for the production of pre-clinical batches. If converted into a commercial license, Crucell will receive additional annual payments and royalties on future sales of PER.C6TM -derived products. Further financial details were not disclosed.

This agreement represents Crucell's 17th license agreement for access to its PER.C6TM technology, of which 9 are with US-based companies, and its second production agreement to manufacture clinical grade batches for studies in the USA.

Crucell has signed an exclusive agreement with Merck & Co., Inc. under which it was granted a license to use Crucell's PER.C6TM platform to develop vaccines for the prevention and treatment of HIV. This agreement also provides Merck the option of extending the exclusivity to cover three additional diseases in the future.

Crucell currently employs approximately 130 people in its facilities in Leiden and Utrecht.
