(Oslo 13th June 2001) Gjensidige NOR Sparebank (Union Bank of Norway) has today signed an agreement with EDB Business Partner for the development and operation of an Internet banking system for the corporate market. The agreement has a contractual value of NOK 27 million over a 5 year period.
EDB Business Partner's fully owned subsidiary EDB Fellesdata is to develop an Internet banking system for the banks' corporate customers in co-operation with Union Bank of Norway. EDB Teamco will be responsible for operating the new system.
"We see the Internet as both a platform for efficient and secure payment services and as a communication channel for the corporate market, and we intend to take advantage of the opportunities offered by a Web-based system to simplify the administration and further development of these services" explains Bente Landsnes, Group Director for Finance and Payment Services at Union Bank of Norway.
"This is an important contract for EDB Fellesdata in both commercial and strategic terms. It serves to strengthen our role as a supplier of Web-based systems for payment services and customer communication using a new generation of technology. The system will represent a state of the art platform for the banks to deliver services to corporate customers" comments Ole Trasti, Executive Vice President Bank & Finance in EDB Business Partner.
The banks involved in collaboration with Union Bank of Norway have option to enter the agreement. The collaboration banks are Sparebanken Hedmark, Sparebanken Sogn og Fjordane, Sparebanken Sør and Sparebanken Rana.
