| EDB improves the efficiency of order management and billing in Telenor |
|
(Oslo, July 18 2003) EDB Business Partner's subsidiary EDB Telesciences, a worldwide leader in telecoms OSS software, today announced two agreements with Telenor, Norway's largest telecom operator. The agreements encompass the development of a new corporate-wide order management system and a consolidation of the fixed-line billing systems in Norway. The contractual values of the two agreements amount to EUR 15 Million & EUR 3.5 Million respectively. Although some deliveries have already been finalised; the final deliveries are to be made in the second quarter of 2004.
Telenor currently has a number of separate billing systems for the corporate and residential markets. Their consolidation will significantly reduce the cost of administration, maintenance and development. Additionally a merged billing system will also simplify the launch of new products and more efficiently serve emerging markets.
- This represents a very interesting and challenging project for EDB Telesciences which will be followed closely by the company, says Asbjørn Eide, Executive Vice President of Telecommunications in EDB Business Partner.
Between 1996 and1999 EDB Telesciences developed two solutions for order management in Telenor. These solutions were later developed and sold under the name Sterling Order Management System to international operators. The solution encompasses two EDB Telesciences products; Sterling Order Manager and Sterling Product Manager. Telenor and EDB Telesciences have now agreed to further develop Sterling Order Management System thus replacing the current fixed net installations. Telenor has, as part of the agreement, an option to develop the next generation of the product, which will encompass mobile network operations.
- Order management is a core process for telecom operators with great opportunities for improving efficiency. Efficiency improvements of more than 40 percent were measured when Sterling Order Manager and Sterling Product Manager were implemented with a leading European operator, says Eide.
- Telenor have chosen EDB Telesciences as a supplier because they have shown a high degree of delivery precision and because they have proven their competitiveness in a difficult international market, says CTO for Telenor Norway, Kjersti Wiklund.
EDB Telesciences has been working on and implemented the first two deliveries of these projects since the beginning of 2003. The work has been done within the existing frame agreement with Telenor, and about one fourth of the total contractual amount has been recognized in the first 6 months of 2003.
The contracts do not generate significant changes to the expected turnover for the business area, and are within the current frame agreement with Telenor. The contracts confirms EDB Telesciences competency within order management, product management and billing.
