Posten AB chooses EDB for IT-operations

(Oslo, 3 December 2004) The Swedish company Posten AB has chosen EDB to supply IT operating services for several of its major business-critical IT systems. The agreement runs for an initial two-year period, and represents total business volume of around NOK 30 million. This contract confirms EDB's strong position in the transportation and logistics sector, and is a further example of the group's expansion into the important Swedish market.

"EDB has understood and met our needs for quality and cost effectiveness. This, together with EDB's strong expertise and operational stability, was a key factor in our decision. We are confident that we have chosen a very reliable supplier with sizeable resources throughout the Nordic region", explains Tomas Staffansson, Head of Purchasing at Posten AB.

EDB is to take over responsibility for the operation of Posten's mainframe systems, which comprise a cashier system, a document management system and a payroll system. These systems serve a network including 850 post office branches with approximately 1,000 cashier terminals. The systems handle commercial transactions between Posten and the company's partners, as well as payroll calculations for Posten's staff of around 35,000.

This kind of system operations demands a high degree of availability, and Posten AB has set high standards for quality, cost-effectiveness and expertise. In addition, quality assurance to meet new and changing market requirements played an important role in Posten's choice of EDB as its supplier. Posten also attached importance to the availability of an operations environment offering similar capacity, functionality and quality as the environment it currently uses.

This contract strengthens EDB's position in the transportation and logistics segment. "The operation of systems like this, which are extremely mission-critical for Posten, represents a big responsibility for EDB. We look forward to our collaboration with Posten on IT operations. The contract signals that EDB's position in Sweden is strengthened", comments Urban Doverhult, Executive Vice President of EDB Sweden.

The contract runs for a two-year period with the opportunity to extend for a further two years, with renewals for one year at a time.
