| SJ renews its IT operations contract with EDB |
|
(Oslo, 19 May 2005) SJ AB has renewed its contract with EDB Business Partner for the operation of its IT systems for a further three years. The agreement represents total business volume of around NOK 72 million. SJ has also signed a separate contract with EDB for communications lines, representing business volume of almost NOK 9 million in 2005. Under the terms of the contract, EDB is responsible for operating SJ's business-critical applications, communications solutions and the IT infrastructure this involves. The services provided by EDB support a range of functions including ticket sales from automatic vending machines and over the Internet. These self-service channels accounted for around one-third of all SJ's ticket sales in 2004.
Increased use of IT is a source of rationalisation gains for SJ. An increasing number of SJ's customers purchase tickets electronically, and this places increased emphasis on the availability and user-friendliness of SJ's IT solutions. SJ is also making ever-greater use of IT in its internal processes, and this too places greater demands on the availability of its IT solutions.
