| EDB provides card services for Handelsbanken |
|
(Oslo, 9 December 2005) The financial group Handelsbanken has signed a framework agreement with EDB which implies that EDB could supply card services to the bank's branches. The agreement runs for five years from November 2005. The contract provides for EDB and Handelsbanken to work together to offer a unified platform for card issuance by the bank's international branches. The platform will cover debit and credit cards for both the retail and corporate markets. Handelsbanken's operations in Norway and Estonia will be the first two banks to use the new card services, and will migrate on to the new solution immediately.
Increasingly important for customers
"It is increasingly important for an international bank to be able to offer our branches and their customers good card solutions that easily could be adapted to different national needs, and also permit standardisation of the bank's common card solutions", comments Gunnel Silvén, Manager Business Development Card Services, at Handelsbanken.
A comprehensive service
EDB's card services comprise a web-based solution for card administration, user support, settlement and reconciliation through the international card networks, together with operating services for the systems involved.
EDB's card solutions are based on international components that are adapted for each country's national infrastructure. As many as 160 Norwegian and foreign banks now use card solutions from EDB. Our customers enjoy competitive advantages through economies of scale and flexibility. Each bank can select a set of solutions based on reusable standard components in accordance with its own strategy.
"The card services and payments areas are characterised by rapid internationalisation and deregulation. EDB's strategy is to meet these global changes by offering solutions that give our customers the freedom to choose a business model and partners that best suit their needs", explains Petter I. Jenssen, EVP of EDB.
