| EDB to operate IT systems for St. Olav's Hospital |
|
(Trondheim, 27 March 2006) St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim has today chosen EDB Business Partner to supply operating services for its IT infrastructure. This is the first time a hospital in Norway has decided to outsource such IT services. St. Olav's Hospital is the new University Hospital in Trondheim, and is being constructed by Helsebygg Midt-Norge (the Hospital Development Project for Central Norway). The contract signed with EDB relates to phase I of the construction of St. Olav's Hospital. The operating services agreement results from an operations option included in the ICT delivery agreement (the Telenor contract). EDB Business Partner will collaborate with HEMIT (the Helse Midt-Norge IT/ICT department) on operating all the ICT installations.
"We set high standards for security and operational reliability. Helsebygg Midt-Norge has run a pilot project with EDB, and our experience from this project tells us that we have now found the right partner", explains Johan Arnt Vatnan, Managing Director of Helsebygg Midt-Norge. Mr Vatnan is responsible for the development of St. Olav's Hospital, which is one of the most advanced hospitals anywhere in Europe. The new hospital places particular importance on using technology to make it as efficient as possible and to improve its service to patients. The hospital's IT solutions have attracted great interest both in Norway and internationally.
The contract with EDB has a commercial profile of NOK 115 million over three years. Helsebygg Midt-Norge has an option to extend for a further five years. Mr Vatnan explains that Helsebygg Midt-Norge will consider a similar arrangement for IT operations for the next phase of the hospital's development once it is constructed.
"This is an important contract for EDB. We look forward with great enthusiasm to collaborating with Helsebygg Midt-Norge, St. Olav's Hospital and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology on IT operations for the University Hospital. We believe that other hospitals could also improve their operational efficiency through outsourcing, and the experience of working on this contract will be very important for EDB", explains EVP Jan Erik Larsen of EDB Business Partner.
"This contract will give us a platform for further growth and development as Midt-Norge's largest IT supplier," adds Mr Larsen.
Technical information:
EDB will be the main supplier of IT operations services to St. Olav's Hospital. Telenor will act as a subcontractor for IP telephony and central switchboard solutions. Hewlett Packard will be a subcontractor for maintenance and fault correction on software and hardware. The overall solution will also use Cisco-based network infrastructure.
