Trondheim extends its collaboration with EDB

(Oslo, 12 July 2007) The City of Trondheim has extended its collaboration with EDB Business Partner and entered into an agreement for the purchase and maintenance of new ERP solutions. The solutions are from EDB's new solutions suite for the public sector, 'Digital public sector'. The agreement runs for 5 years, and represents total contract value of around NOK 60 million.

Before making this decision, the City of Trondheim committed around 15,000 hours to analysing all its working processes. "All areas of technical expertise were involved in the process that led to the choice of EDP as our supplier. We decided on EDB on the basis of both functional and technological evaluation of their ability to support the authority's working processes", comments Harald Moe, Head of IT at the City of Trondheim.

"This is a breakthrough for 'Digital public sector', EDB's new solutions suite for the public sector. The City of Trondheim is a pacesetter for use of IT in the public sector, and the city authority's choice of EDB is both a vote of confidence and confirmation that our new solutions are competitive", explains Jan Ivar Borgersen, EVP responsible for the Public Sector unit at EDB.

Improved quality and efficiency
The new solutions will make the city authority's administration more efficient, and pave the way for greater digital interaction with citizens. EDB's deliveries to the City of Trondheim will start on 1 August this year. The new solutions will meet the authority's requirements in respect of payroll, human resources, accounting and finance, investments and purchasing. The new solutions are due to be to be fully implemented by the City of Trondheim in 18 months' time.

'Digital public sector' is EDB's new offer for municipalities and the health sector. It is based on a unified and platform-independent solutions strategy that offers users exceptional flexibility and functionality. SAP's service-oriented architecture provides the basis for the offer, while EDB's solutions for the public sector have been renewed and upgraded with new functionality. The solutions are role-based and delivered through a web-based user interface, and have been developed using open standards and freely available software. The key objective is to create interactive dialogue both within a municipality and in the municipality's contacts with its citizens. These solutions pave the way for a reduction in the number of applications used, lower operating costs and reduced investment costs.
