Telenor Cinclus enters into operating services agreement with EDB

(Oslo, 28 April 2008) EDB has entered into a three-year Nordic operating services agreement with Telenor Cinclus. The market for automatic meter reading (AMR) is expected to grow strongly over the next few years, and this contract gives EDB significant opportunities for expansion in terms of both volume and services.

Telenor Cinclus has developed a systems platform to collect meter reading data for processing and transmission to the energy company. A survey carried out by the Swedish market research company Berg Insight showed that 60% of all 13 million households in the Nordic countries will be on automatic meter reading by 2010.

"This is a rapidly growing market, and it was essential for us to choose a partner with documented experience, an established range of services and the ability to respond to the growth we are targeting. By giving operational responsibility to a professional operating services partner, we can focus fully on the market", explains Geir Nilsson, VP Operations at Telenor Cinclus.

Automatic meter reading both reads the meter and transmits the data automatically. In addition, AMR technology opens up opportunities for energy companies to offer additional services such as burglar and fire alarms, water and gas metering, temperature management and image transmission.

The agreement with EDB represents total contract volume of NOK 45 million over a three-year period based on current volumes. Telenor Cinclus currently has both E-ON and Fortum on its customer list, representing around 1 million consumers, and it aims to be the largest supplier of automatic meter reading in the Nordic region.

"This contract opens up important opportunities for EDB in terms of business volume throughout the Nordic region. In addition, AMR technology has the potential to deliver additional services in the future. This offers significant opportunities, not least for our units specialising in IT consulting and application management", comments Jan Erik Larsen, Executive Vice President at EDB.

The contract's start date was 1 April 2008, and provides for operating and network services, in addition to service level agreements for year-round 24/7 operations.
