Hawesko CEO Margaritoff underscores importance of international expansion (September 28, 2003) Hamburg, 28 September 2003. Chief Executive Officer Alexander Margaritoff emphasised the importance of international expansion for Hawesko Holding AG (HAW GR, HAWG.DE, DE0006042708) in the medium-term. In a newspaper interview published on Sunday, Margaritoff said that Hawesko had gained experience in Austria which would prove valuable in expanding to other countries neighboring Germany. While some consumer habits differ from country to country, said Margaritoff, the Hawesko Group has core competencies in its long-standing relationships to top winemakers around the world, in database and direct marketing as well as in wholesale, all of which would be useful in operations in other countries. Hawesko Holding AG is a leading seller of premium wines and champagnes in Germany. Through its three distribution channels - mail order/e-commerce (particularly Hanseatisches Wein- und Sekt-Kontor), specialist wine-shop retail (Jacques' Wein-Depot) and wholesale (Wein Wolf and CWD Champagner- und Wein- Distributionsgesellschaft) - the Group achieved sales of Euro 267 million in fiscal year 2002. The Group employs 550 staff members.
