Skaugen PetroTrans, a company in the I.M. Skaugen group (OSE: SKA), chartered an Aframax tanker from Stentex Wednesday 1 November in the first trade on the SeaLogistics.com site.
"We are excited to participate in the first transaction," SPT President Mr. Trygve Munthe said. "We have taken an active role in developing e-chartering, and this will play an important part for chartering tonnage down the road."
Early this year I.M. Skaugen (IMS) entered into co-operation with other partners in the industry and venture capital firms and formed "OneSea.com". The investment was a modest USD 600,000. OneSea.com later merged with SeaLogistics.com. SPT has worked closely with OneSea and later SeaLogsitics in developing the solution for e-chartering, and Mr. Munthe serves as a Director on the Board of SeaLogistics. IMS believes that with its broad industry backing, SeaLogistics has the potential to become one of the surviving entities among the many, many e-chartering initiatives.
"We see many areas where IT will make the day-to-day operations easier for us and our customers," Mr. Munthe said.
Since the beginning of this year, SPT has made lightering conditions and updates available in real-time on IMS' web site: www.skaugen.com with download possibilities to WAP and PDA (wireless PalmPilot VII in the US) as an extra service to the customers.
