I.M. Skaugen ASA, Oslo (IMS) - Wuhan University of Technology - Skaugen Training Center (WUT-STC) has received its ISO 9001:2000 Certificate issued by DnV. This is the first such certificate given to a Seafarers Training Center in China. The training center is owned 50/50 by the Wuhan University of Technology in the Hubei Province and I. M Skaugen ASA, Oslo.
WUT-STC engages in the training of seafarers in the handling and transportation of, dangerous cargoes including liquid petroleum gases, chemicals and oil products, as well as vessel maintenance. Equipped with advanced training equipment and first class teaching staff, the training center is fast becoming a premier training center within China in the field of handling and transportation of dangerous cargoes at sea.
WUT-STC has been accredited by the Maritime Safety Authorities of China as one of the designated training institutes in China. More than 3000 Chinese seafarers have graduated from the training center since its inception, and about 1000 students attended our courses during 2001.
Trainees of WUT-STC have filled over 350 positions on board vessels of Norgas fleet, which are owned by I. M. Skaugen ASA engaging in worldwide petrochemical gas and LPG trade. Vessels of Norgas Fleet are manned by a mix of international crew from Europe and South East Asia, thus showing the ability of WUT-STC to produce seafarers capable of working in an international multicultural environment.
In addition to providing competent seafarers to I. M. Skaugen ASA vessels, WUT-STC has also provided training services for reputed companies such as COSCO, Formosa Plastics, Sinochem and V-Ships.
