Gudvangen Stein has appointed Morten Samskott as new general manager effective from 1 May 2010. Samskott is technical engineer with various management experience from mechanical industry, i.a. Trøndelag Diamantboring and Skaalurens Skipsbyggeri. Samskott has broad knowledge of the Gudvangen anorthosite massifs.
Gudvangen Stein has prepared a new mine plan for its mine in Jordalsnuten in Aurland municipality. The mine plan has been submitted to the Directorate of Mining. The plan includes extension of the current mining level with an estimated production potential of 1 million tons of anorthosite.
Gudvangen Stein, a fully owned subsidiary of Nordic Mining ASA, has production of anorthosite from its mine in Aurland. The main market segments for the anorthosite is for production of stonewool insulation, and as light aggregate with high polish stone value for asphalt roads in order to improve traffic safety. The current production level is approx. 200,000 tons per year.
The Gudvangen anorthosite is a calsium feldspar with approx. 30% aluminium content. The chemical composition provides interesting opportunities for anorthosite as raw material in various industrial applications for production of high-grade mineral products. Gudvangen Stein has several ongoing development projects for new applications of anorthosite.
