New iPhones models to support native 'background' NFC tag read functionality without an app

On 12 September 2018, Apple announced a range of new iPhone models that, for the first time, will support native 'background' NFC tag read functionality. This enhancement simplifies the end-user experience by making dedicated reader applications optional. When a user scans a conventional URL-encoded NFC tag with their iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR device and accepts the resulting notification, the phone instantly opens the browser to launch the digital experience. Further documentation is available on the iOS developer website at https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/tech-talks/702/.

As the only vertically integrated solutions provider in the NFC industry, Thinfilm provides solutions based on conventional as well as unique printed NFC tags. Thinfilm's CNECT Cloud Platform supports hundreds of registered companies and more than 30 in-market deployments across multiple verticals, encompassing over-the-counter pharma, wine & spirits, beauty & personal care, and supply chain applications.
