Bureau Veritas acquires Shenzhen Total-Test to further expand in the food safety and quality market in China

Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification, announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Shenzhen Total-Test Technology Co., Ltd. (Shenzhen Total-Test), a food testing leader in China.

Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Shenzhen in Southern China, Shenzhen Total-Test holds an extensive accreditation scope for food testing with both on-site and off-site capabilities. It provides services for more than 30 product categories including agricultural products, processed food products, additives, baby food and animal feed as well as non-medical cosmetic products. The company serves a diversified client base across the value chain, from agriculture through food processing, retail and hospitality to government agencies. The company has approximately 340 employees and posted revenues of c. €10 million in 2018.

Rising demand in food safety and quality drives more regulations as well as more conformity services in China. In this buoyant market, Shenzhen Total-Test's set of skills, licenses to operate and client portfolio complement Bureau Veritas' capabilities in food and agricultural commodities testing, inspection, certification and audit services in mainland China.

This new laboratory will become Bureau Veritas' food testing hub in South China, supporting existing and future satellite laboratories in the region and complementing the already existing hub in Northern China. It also strengthens Bureau Veritas' global network in the food market, totaling over 75 laboratories worldwide.

Didier Michaud-Daniel, Chief Executive Officer of Bureau Veritas, states: "This acquisition is a twofold breakthrough for our Group. First, it supports our fast-paced development in the Agri-Food sector where we aim to become a global leader and provides more confidence in supply chains and the quality of consumer products. Second, it helps our continued expansion in China encompassing the entire scope of our activities addressing both domestic and export markets."

"We are pleased to join forces with Bureau Veritas to provide an extended range of quality services to public organizations, as well as local and international private customers. We are confident that this alliance will enable us to develop even faster in the future as we benefit from the large strategic footprint of Bureau Veritas in Agri-Food services and its international food testing operational expertise," added Shou'an ZHOU, General Manager of Shenzhen Total-Test.

Following this acquisition Bureau Veritas now employs over 15,000 employees in China, making it Bureau Veritas' largest country in terms of staff.
